Episode 48: Ballet, Body Image and Healing Through Movement with Chrissy Sundt
Chrissy Sundt is an ex ballerina, movement expert and founder of Silver Linings Well Being.
Brought up as a strict vegetarian by her father. At home they were, “a weird Norwegian family living in this mad old house” who became “some of the forerunners of the organic farming movement” in the UK.
At ballet school Chrissy learnt to internalise her emotional and physical struggles in the name and pursuit of balletic perfection.
“Everyone thinks of ballet as this beautiful, elegant thing and actually it’s full of effort. We make it look effortless but it is effort-full. Really, physically demanding, as demanding as any Olympic sport, yet we put on this veneer of perfection – then we tend to carry that over into our real lives. We don’t share when the internal voices are going and the perfectionism is at its peak and things are hard, we don’t voice it because we are taught to make it look effortless.”
But when Chrissy injured her ankle it turned out to be the best silver lining ever!
This is a powerful episode with the effervescent, funny and infectious Chrissy Sundt. Don’t miss it.
